Q1: Does the Qtek Pocket PC Support Bluetooth?
A: Bluetooth is not supported on the Qtek 1010; our next generation
of the Qtek 1010 will support SDIO, so a Bluetooth SDIO card can
be used.
Q2: Every time I synchronize my Qtek with my Desktop
PC, the time on my Qtek Pocket PC changes?
A: In the ActiveSync menu Extras>Options>Sync Options there
is an option: ‘Synchronize mobile device clock upon connecting’.
When this option is activated, the Qtek Pocket PC changes it’s
time to the time on the Desktop PC after every synchronization.
Q3: I noticed the every night at about 12:00 am
my Qtek Pocket PC turns itself on without any apparent reason.
Why is that?
A: Every PDA (such as the Qtek Pocket PC) running on Windows CE,
turns on at midnight, in order to synchronize the calendar. If
the “automatic shut-down “is activated the whole process only
takes a few minutes and PDA turns off again. This process has

Q4. Is there a QuickTime Player for the Qtek Pocket
PC?
A: There is a shareware QuickTime Player, with which you can play-back
‘.mov’ files. The player is called Pickpocket Cinema 2.7 and you
can download a demo-version from the following site:

Q5: Are there any programs which enable me to
do ‘voice dialing’ from my Qtek Pocket PC?
A: The best Voice Dialing software which has been tested on the
Qtek Pocket PC is ‘Voice Dial’ by Fonix or ‘Vita Voice’ dialing

Q6: On my Qtek Pocket PC the LED glows and blinks
in various colors. What does this mean?
A: Listed below is an overview of the various LED signals:
Green-blink every 3 seconds: the GSM connection is
active
Green-blink every second: a missed call, note or reminder is activated
Permanent red: the battery is empty
Red-blink: the battery is almost empty
Permanent amber/orange: the battery is being charged
Permanent green: the battery is fully charged
Q7: Is there a way to transfer my SMS to my Desktop
PC?
A: Presently, there is no software available whereby SMS can be
synchronized to the Desktop with Outlook client.
Q8: When I use the speaker phone in my Qtek Pocket
PC, sometimes I hear an echo of the other person?
A: This ‘feedback’ happens because the volume of the speaker is
quite high. Try to set the volume from the speaker settings. This
should solve the problem.
Q9: Does the Qtek Pocket PC support MMS?
A: Yes. You can buy the software, EzWAP 2.5,
Q10: What is AvantGo?
A: AvantGo is the software that provides updated personalized
content from popular Web sites to your Qtek Pocket PC for offline
browsing. But you will need to synchronize your Qtek using your
desktop PC which must be connected to Internet.
Q11: What happens if I send a SMS
message from my Qtek which has more than 160 characters?
A: Your Qtek Pocket PC will automatically break up the long message
into chunks of 160 characters and send it out as multiple SMS
messages. However, it can receive SMS messages with more than
160 characters as one whole message.
Q12: Can I receive phone calls while downloading
content on the Qtek?
A: You will not be able to receive phone calls while downloading
content or pages from the Internet. But if your Internet connection
is on you will receive the call and you will have the option to
answer or reject the call. If you have selected to answer the
call, you will have to wait for about 5 seconds after pressing
the answer button till you can hear the caller’s voice.
Q13: What are the ways by which I can do backups
for my Qtek Pocket PC and what can I backup?
A: There are three ways to back-up. SD Backup (under programs),
Permanent Save (Under settings/system), and ActiveSync on PC desktop,
"Backup/Restore" (under tools>Backup/Restore).

Q14: After a successful synchronization between
my Pocket PC and Outlook on the Desktop PC all appointments
appear twice in my Calendar. How can I delete the duplicate entries?
A: If you use ActiveSync 3.6, after creating a new partnership
and after synchronization, it automatically checks for duplicate
entries, which may then be deleted on request. If you do not want
to create a new partnership, there is another option by applying
the Freeware program "Outlook Duplicates Remover". This
program is downloaded after a simple registration with your name
and email address, to which the download link is then sent. Here

Q15: Some of my appointments that I entered in
Outlook on my Desktop PC do not appear on my Qtek Pocket PC?
A: Probably there is one or more entries activated on your Qtek
in the menu Extras>Categories. If this is so, only these entries
will appear on your Qtek.
Note 1: Even if all present entries are check-marked,
the appointments which are not assigned to a category will also
not appear!
Note 2: After a soft-reset, all appointments will be displayed
again.
Q16: Is it possible to play Power Point presentations
on my Qtek Pocket PC?
A: There is Pocket Slide Show which can be downloaded at www.cretx.com.
Q17: What is the difference between Active Sync
3.5 and 3.6? ActiveSync 3.7 has also been recently launched.
A: ActiveSync 3.6 consists of some improvements such as:
- Improved Remote Synchronization
- Configuration of the server synchronization adjustments
directly via PC.
- Improved and stabilized USB support
- Improved and more robust synchronization with
Outlook
- Improved Synchronization Assistant. During the
first-synchronization, the data is only synchronized after all
adjustments have been defined.
- A further important improvement is the already
installed support for Windows-Powered Smart Phone 2002.
Q18: Is it possible to synchronize between a single
PC and multiple Qtek Devices?
A: It is possible to establish separate partnerships between the
Single PC and multiple Qtek Devices. ActiveSync allows different
scheme of synchronization across the different devices that are
partnering with that single PC.
Q19: What type of items can I synchronize between
my Qtek Pocket PC and Desktop PC?
A: Using ActiveSync, you can synchronize Calendar, Contacts, Tasks,
Bookmark favorites, Pocket Access, Inbox, Notes, Files and AvantGo.
Q20: How can I divert my phone calls?
A: Go to Start > Settings > Personal ‘Tab’ > Phone >
Services ‘Tab’ > Select ‘Call forwarding’ > Click ‘Get Settings’.
Q21: What version of Pocket Explorer is supported
in Pocket PC 2002 phone edition?
A: Same as Pocket PC 2002, which is Pocket Internet Explorer 3.0.
Q22: What are the options available for phone
settings and how to change it?
A: From the phone screen, simply go to Tools/Options and select
the ring type, you can choose between (Ringing, Ring Once, Vibrates,
Vibrate and Ring, Vibrate then Ring and Silent) and you select
ring tones of your choice.
Q23: I lost my contacts on the PC when I deleted
them on my Qtek. Please explain.
A: Once you establish a Standard Partnership between your PC and
the Qtek and choose to Synchronize the Contacts every time you
Synchronize, Active Sync will automatically combine the Information
between the Qtek and the Desktop PC. Hence, if you deleted something
from one side it will be deleted on the other. Thus, what you
will need to do is, before you synchronize, you will have to delete
the Partnership on Active Sync Program ( File > Delete Partnership);
then, establish a new partnership all over again .
Note: you can find your Deleted contacts in the Deleted
item folder under Outlook.
Q24: Is it possible to surf the Internet with
my Qtek Pocket PC, while it is connected to the Desktop PC?
A: If the Desktop PC has a connection to the internet, then it
is possible to surf in the Internet with the Qtek, while connected
with Active Sync. The technique is called Desktop pass through
and is adjusted within Active Sync in the menu Options > Rules
in the bottom option pass through. In the entry “Connection:”
the route, with which the Desktop PC enters the Internet, is selected.
A company with Internet access on the workstations must enter
Office in this entry field. The last step consists of activating
the option Open Active Sync > Connect to Device
Q25: How do I modify the ‘Today’ screen?
A: Go to Start > Settings > Today. Then select the Today
screen.
Q26: While the Call is Active, is it Possible
to Record the Conversation?
A: The Pocket PC allows you to record with the built-in microphone.
The quality of the recording may be defined in the menu: Start
>Settings>Input. The built-in microphone can only record
in mono quality. If you start the recorder before a dial-up it
turns off again. You must first dial the desired counterpart and
then start the recorder. It does not only record with the microphone,
but also the tone of the counterpart is recorded.
Q27: I had removed some programs from my Qtek
Pocket PC through the Remove Programs utility but it is still
showing the Program Icon in the Programs Menu ?
A: You need to delete the file from the program dialog box by
performing the following steps:
Go to Start>Programs>File Explorer>My Device>Windows>Start
Menu>Programs
From here, tap on the program icon that you want
to delete and click on delete.
Q28: When I setting up the Internet settings I
notice that even if I set the Baud Rate to a higher setting, it
automatically returns to 19200. Why does this happen?
A: The value can indeed not be changed. But this is not necessary,
since it is ignored by the GPRS-implementation. It automatically
transmits at the highest speed.
Q29: How to change the clock format from 24 hours
to 12 hours?
A: Go to Start >Settings>System tab>Regional Settings>Time:
select time style h:mm:ss tt or hh:mm:ss tt where tt stands for
AM/PM
Q30: My transcriber translated handwriting into
printed text without problems. Suddenly, it does not work. A soft-reset
and restoring the recognition adjustments did not help. What has
happened?
A: On the left of the icon-bar you will find a button with an
arrow. This arrow switches direction every time you tap on it.
The recognition direction is set this way. If you tap this arrow
by mistake you change the recognition direction and the transcriber
tries to recognize the handwriting in vain
Q31: Is there a way to have Answering Machine
in my Qtek Pocket PC ?
A: No, there is no application, which can be used as an answering
machine for the PocketPC Phone Edition. One can only use the answering
machine offered by the provider.
Q32: How can I put the call in Mute Mode on my
Qtek Pocket PC ?
A: This is only possible by pressing the button on the head-set.
There is no such option on the Qtek device. One can use the “HOLD”
button on the virtual telephone keyboard (second button from the
bottom), during a call, so that the caller hears music, as well
as a message in the regional language and in English
Q33: What is the difference between Letter Recognizer
and Block Recognizer?
A: The Block Recognizer serves the users, who have switched from
Palm™ devices. It offers the possibility of entering characters,
similar to the so-called Grafitti from Palm Inc. The Letter Recognizer
identifies each individually written letter of the alphabet.
Q34: Whenever the earpiece is plugged on, there
is no ringing tone to alert the new SMS. Can I change this?
A: When the earpiece is plugged on, there is still a ringing tone
to alert the new SMS, but you need to use the earpiece to listen
to the ringing tone. You may also set an additional "vibrate"
alert in Settings>Personal>Sounds & Notifications screen.
Q35: How can I use AvantGo?
A: See the instructions below
1) Put your Qtek Pocket PC on the cradle;
2) Connect your PC to the Internet;
3) Check on the AvantGo box under Options of ActiveSync. Fill
in the subscription details.
4) Once you are subscribed to this service at www.avantgo.com

Q36: How do I send SMS to Multiple Recipients
at a time?
A: Here are the steps:
- In the Inbox Program, select New
- Make sure the "To" field is highlighted
- Click on the blue icon on the bottom of the screen
- Select the contacts that you want to send SMS
to
- Unclick the blue icon to see your SMS message
- Click Send (top left corner)
Q37: Can I read SMS from the SIM card?
A: You cannot read the SMS which have been received in the past
using other phones. For those SMS received in the Qtek, you can
read it in SMS (inbox).
Q38: How can I delete the area code in the Contacts
of my Qtek?
A: Go to Start>Contact>Tools>Options>Delete area code
Q39: Can I delete my log calls one by one?
A: Yes, open the log list then Tab and hold on the number that
you want to delete. Click delete> Click ‘Yes’.
Q40: If I put a SIM card of another service provider
in my Qtek, would I still be able to use the Qtek?
A: Yes. You can use your Qtek pocket PC with any GSM 900 or 1800
MHz Operator. It is a dual band GSM
Q41: How do I view the names in Contacts by company?
A: Go to Contacts>view>By Company
Q42: Can I add/modify the fields in Contacts (Add,
Delete or Rename Field)?
A: No. The fields are pre-set and can not be changed.
Q43: If I saved the Contacts from my SIM card
to the Qtek then added a second SIM card with the same contact
numbers as the previously installed SIM card, will it over write
the old contacts or add the same contacts twice?
A: It will write over the old contacts and not create a duplicate
list.
Q44: Why can I not hear anything from the Windows
Media Player?
A: It might be because the vibration mode is on instead of the
volume or the device is set to silent mode.
Q45: Does my Qtek Pocket PC support movie clips
and MP3s?
A: Yes. Using Windows Media Player 8, you can watch video clips
and listen to your MP3s and MWA formats. You may also install
a program called Pocket TV from www.pocketTV.com.
Q46: Can I access to my corporate email accounts
on Outlook Express?
A : In addition to local synchronization of e-mails via the cradle,
cable or IrDA connection, corporate e-mails can also be accessed
over-the-air as long as the mail system supports either POP3,
IMAP4 or Web access. Pending that the corporate firewalls also
allow access.
Q47: when I am surfing the web am I using the
mobile phone line?
A: No. It is a digital connection for both Circuit Switched Data
(CSD) connection or GPRS data session to connect to the Internet.
Also both Web and WAP are supported.
Q48: How can I delete files in the personal folder
on the desktop during synchronization?
A: Stop all the running programs in the background, then re-sync
the Qtek pocket PC and try to delete the files again. It should
work after that except the active sync.
Q49: Why is it that I cannot delete my excel or
word document from my Qtek Pocket PC ?
A: There are different possibilities to why this is happening.
One of the reasons is that the excel or word document is still
open. Therefore, make sure that the file is closed. To check,
go to Start and look for the excel or word logo, then click on
the button. Then you should be able to see if the document is
open or not. Close the file and after that you should be able
to delete it. If you still cannot, then do a soft reset to restart
the device and you should be able to delete the file. Do not do
a hard reset unnecessarily because it will delete away everything
in your Qtek Device and that includes your document, email settings,
contacts and etc…
Q50: How do I stop the running programs in my
Qtek device?
A: Go to start > Settings > System > Memory > running
programs > Stop all
Q51: How to check the remaining amount of battery power left
in the Qtek?
A: Go to Start >Settings>System>Power
Q52: Can I transfer data such as files to the
MMC card directly when I use ActiveSync?
A: If your MMC is installed while your Qtek is connected by ActiveSync,
press the explorer button and copy your file in storage card under
My Computer.
Q53: Is it possible to show the battery power
on the Today screen in place of going to Settings?
A: Yes, by installing 3rd party software like battery
tool.
Q54: Is it possible to attach voice messages to
an Excel file?
A: Attaching voice files to Excel sheets is not supported; but,
voice messages can be conveniently recorded and attached to an
email.
Q55: I use to have a Palm PC and I have a lot
of Contacts on it. How can I transfer these Contacts to my Qtek
Pocket PC ?
A: You will need to first transfer your Palm data to Microsoft
Outlook 2002; then, you can sync your data from the PC to your
Qtek device.
Q56: Does the Qtek Pocket PC Support Compact Flash
or PC Card ?
A: Unfortunately Qtek Pocket PC is unable to support the compact
flash or PC Card.
Q57: Does the Qtek device support I/O via expansion
slot?
A: This feature is not supported. The forthcoming version of the
device will support SDIO card.
Q58: Can I use my Qtek as an external modem for
my Laptop?
A: This facility is available with the new version 3.16.52. A
new program item is available called “wireless modem” in the programs
menu.
Q59: Do I have to turn off the Qtek every time
I insert the MMC or SD card?
A: No. The Qtek will automatically detect the MMC or SD card.
Q60: How long It take to charge the battery full
charged?
A: 3 hours, the led light will be changing from orange to green
after it is fully charged.
Q61: Where to get the IMEI and S/N of the Qtek?
A: As in any other mobile phone you can find it printed on the
label behind the Qtek. Also, for the IMEI number, you can key
in *#06# into your Qtek phone. And it will show the Qtek IMEI
number. Another option is the following Setting>System>Device
information>Identity.
Q62: How do I change the battery inside the Qtek?
How much does it cost for the replacement?
A: The replacement of the internal battery must be performed by
authorized service personnel. The warranty for the battery is
six months. The exact cost of replacement varies from country
to country. Please, contact NASCO for Middle East version
Q63: The Qtek Pocket PC does not have additional
backup battery. Does this mean that when the battery goes flat
I will lose all the data and information stored in my device?
A: No, there is additional battery pack which doubles your battery
life.
Q64. How long is the battery life?
A: 3.5 hrs talk time, 15 hrs of constant PDA usage and 150 hrs
standby time.
Q65: Can I install programs onto the expandable
memory?
A: Yes, during installation do not select default directory. Rather,
select storage card.
Q66: What is the memory size of the Qtek Pocket
PC?
A: The standard is 64mb RAM and 32mb ROM. However, there is an
SD/MMC expansion slot to extend you Qtek memory storage.
Q67: In Internet Explorer, I can not see the images
in the pages but only text, why is that?
A: There is an icon at the bottom of your web browser to hide
pictures in WebPages. This feature is available because most pictures
actually take additional space in the server and the GPRS charges
are by downloaded data size. By disabling display of images you
can save browsing cost as well as time taken to download a page.
Q68: If I leave my Qtek device in the charger
does the power cut off upon full charge?
A: When the device is fully charged, a solid green LED light is
indicated. Power does not automatically cut off by itself.
Q69: Can I use my Qtek abroad?
A: As with any mobile device, the Qtek Pocket PC will roam wherever
there is a GSM 900 or 1800 network as long as there is roaming
agreement between your operator in your resident country and the
operator within the city you are visiting. Do check with your
mobile operator before you travel.
Q70: What types of file does MS Reader support?
A: It supports MS E-Book .lit format. MS Word 2000 & MS Word
2002 document can be converted to .lit format easily with Microsoft
Reader 2.0 for PC.
Q71: What types of files are supported by the
Windows Media Player?
A: MP3, Windows Media Audio (WMA), Advanced Streaming Format (ASF)
and Windows Media Video (WMV) files are supported. You can also
receive streaming content. Formats such as .asf, .asx, .wm, .wma,
.wmv and .wav are all supported.
Q72: What type of image files does Qtek support?
A: Qtek supports image files of jpg or bitmap formats.
Q73: What should I do if my Internet Explore either
freezes itself or I receive a blank screen?
A: This appears to be a bug with the Microsoft Pocket PC software.
To get around this problem, simply click on Tools>Options>Advanced
tabs under Internet Explorer and click on the circled “OK” icon
on the top right corner. The blank or frozen screen should get
back to normal. Microsoft is aware of this problem and we expect
this problem to be fixed in a future upgrade of the PocketPC OS.
Q74: How do I use conference call feature in the
Qtek?
A: To set up a conference call, you can either put a call on hold,
dial a second number and wait for it to be picked up or accept
a second incoming call when you already have one in progress.
You can then tap Conference button on the screen to start the
conference. To add additional people to your conference call tap
Hold, key in the number, and then resume.
Q75: Does the Qtek show Caller ID from contact
list when receiving call?
A: Yes. Name of the person calling will be shown if the name and
phone number is found in the contact list.
Q76: Why can I not access some WEB pages?
A: Pocket Internet Explorer supports HTML3.2, XML and XSL. Full-blown
Java applets, animated .gif files, and Dynamic HTML are not supported
by Pocket Internet Explorer on Pocket PC devices such as Qtek
Pocket PC.
Q77: Can I change the ring type to vibrate mode
or beep once then ring or increasing ring?
A: You can set ring type to Ring, Increasing ring, Ring once,
Vibrate, Vibrate and ring, Vibrate then ring or None.
Q78: What can I synchronize with Microsoft Outlook?
A: You can synchronize Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and E-mail of
Microsoft Outlook on your PC via ActiveSync. To synchronize your
email over the air, you need to connect to a POP3 or IMAP4 mail
server. ActiveSync also allows you to synchronize files.
Q79: Can I record a 2-way conversation during
the call?
A: Definitely; you can also make a note during the call.
Q80: Can I retrieve phone book during a conference
call?
A: Yes, in fact you should also be able to access most of other
programs of the Qtek.
Q81: How do I turn on/off the speaker phone function?
A: Press and hold the talk button for 3 seconds until the speaker-phone
icon appears at the top.
Q82: Does the Qtek Pocket PC allow use of WAV
file as a ringtone?
A: Yes. You can save your favorite songs to .wav format and set
them up as Qtek ringtones. In other words, you can make your own
ringtones without paying for ringtone download.
Q83: How do I save a contact with multiple phone
numbers to the SIM?
A: Contacts with multiple phone numbers will be saved as individual
addresses on the SIM.
Q84: How do I know I have unread SMS messages?
A: An "envelope" icon will appear at the top of the
screen when you receive a SMS message. Simply click the Inbox
to retrieve SMS messages or other email messages.
Q85: Can I read and write Arabic content on the
Qtek?
A: The Qtek Pocket PC does not support Arabic input. However,
you can install “Imaginet” Arabic Suite for the Qtek from
any authorised Nasco dealer which enables you to read, write,
send, receive and save data in Arabic. Check out the “where to
buy page” for more details about Nasco Qtek dealer outlets near
to you.
Q86: How do I dial a phone number stored in the
SIM without saving it to my Qtek?
A: Just go to the SIM Manager under Programs, tap and hold the
stylus on the contact you wish to call, wait for the menu to pop
up and then press the Call button.
Q87: Is there any fax software
for Qtek?
A: Yes, Qtek supports sending and receiving
faxes by installing True Fax software and GSM should be subscribed
for fax service from your GSM network service provider.
Q88: The headset does not work properly when the
button is pressed; the call is not terminated?
A: The headset is not defective; the button on the headset has
two functions. You can either mute a call or initiate the call.
The calls are terminated automatically when the called party hangs-up
the phone.
Q89: What are the different ways to pickup an
incoming call on Qtek?
A: You can press the green button on the lower left
of the handset. If you are using a headset press the button on
the headset or you can configure the phone to auto receive the
call after defined number of phone rings
Q90: Does the Qtek support ICQ and Yahoo Messenger?
A: Yes. You have to download the proper Pocket PC software
for ICQ and Yahoo Messenger.
Q91: Why cannot I see the SMS sender name in the
SMS inbox?
A: This problem is a software bug which can be solved in
two ways. The first one is to install the paragon SMS Name utility
or by upgrading the Qtek operating system software to a new version
3.16.52.
Q92: Is there any way to create different caller
groups in your Qtek contacts?
A: Yes, by default there are two different category business
and personal but you can also add user-defined categories.
Q93: The existing MS Word and MS Excel applications
have limited functions; can this be enhanced?
A: The existing limitations cannot be resolved at this stage
but you can download Text maker for Pocket PC and Spread CE which
have most of the PC functionality of MS Word and Excel.
Q94: Is there any Acrobat reader available for
Pocket PC to view PDF files?
A: Yes, there is an Acrobat reader available for Pocket PC.
You can download this from www.acrobat.com. The most important consideration
is files should be converted into version before it can be used
in Qtek.
Q95: What is the function of auto configuration
tool?
A: The auto configuration tool presets the GPRS, SMS, WAP
and other data settings connection settings to a desired GSM operator.
Q96: Does Qtek support Flash content?
A: Yes, the Qtek supports Flash files by installing Macromedia
Flash Player from www.macromedia.com.
Q97: What is the use of the Flash player?
A: Most of the time the Flash player is used for CBT (Computer
Based Training) for any courses like MCSE, CCNA and other computer-based
training programs.
Q98: How I can print any documents from Qtek?
A: There are two ways to print Qtek data: the first one is Synchronize
the documents to your PC and print on the normal printer. Second,
you can print directly on to a printer which has an infrared option
but you have to install the universal driver on the Qtek.
Q99: Can you attach a camera to a Qtek?
A: There are cameras available in SD card but the current
version of Qtek does not have the SDIO slot which is the major
requirement for SD camera. The next version of Qtek will be able
to support the SD camera.
Q100: How can I read emails offline?
A: There are two ways to read emails offline: the first method
is to configure your Active Sync software in your desktop to synchronize
your mail in Qtek. The second method is to download the emails
from your POP3 or Imap4 server using wireless network connections.
Q101: How I can create and modify my own themes
for my Today screen?
A: You can create and modify your own themes by installing theme
generator software which is a freeware utility available from
Club Pocket PC of Microsoft website.
Q102: How I can identify my theme files in my
desktop?
A: The theme file has an extension .TSK.
